WHAT TO EXPECT

Explorers will learn basic firefighting, rescue, and EMS skills, and will be introduced to firefighter culture through station duties and community service.

Explorers are issued fire gear and safety equipment and work with Austin firefighters in the same facilities that are used to train our professional firefighters. 

We expect everyone to come with a positive attitude and adventurous spirit and be prepared to get sweaty and dirty. Our post meets 4 hours a week on Saturdays and is a co-ed, equal opportunity program. Whether or not you become a professional firefighter, our program helps personal and career development for success in work and life.

If you do become a firefighter, it will give you the knowledge, experience, and networking tools to help reach your future goals in the fire service.
